Dawn Anderson-Butcher
Dawn Anderson-Butcher (THS, 1988)
Dr. Dawn Anderson-Butcher is a professor in social work and kinesiology at The Ohio State University (OSU), where she co-leads LiFEsports (www.lifesports.osu.edu) and directs the Community and Youth Collaborative Institute (www.cayci.osu.edu). Dawn is a leading scholar in youth sport research nationally, having just conducted our country’s first ever National Coach Survey in partnership with Nike and other funders. Currently, she leads state-wide work to improve interscholastic sport experiences in Ohio in partnership with the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Dawn also works with school districts in Ohio and across the country to improve student mental health. She has published over 100 journal articles and generated over 15 million dollars over her career. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare and Research Fellow in both the Society of Health and Physical Educators and the Society of Social Work Researchers. Next month she will be inducted into the National Academy of Kinesiology.
Dawn grew up her entire life in Anderson Township, graduating from Turpin High School in 1988. While at Turpin, she was involved in many activities, having served on student council (President senior year), played sports (soccer, gymnastics; State Champion in 1986), sang in chorus, and was even Prom Queen. After high school Dawn went on to play soccer in college, then earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Miami University. She completed her PhD in sport psychology at the University of Utah. She is a licensed clinical social work worker in Ohio and a Certified Mental Performance Consultant with Association for Applied Sport Psychology.
Dawn resides in Dublin, Ohio with her spouse, C.D., and sons, Andrew and Austin. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being physically active (e.g., golfing, walking) and mentoring students.
